In this session guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the latest developments in relation to environmentally progressive materials and how designers are using these materials. The session will feature contributions from leading British entrepreneur Joey Pringle and Danqi Chen, the FOUNDER OF DONSEE10 who are making positive changes in relation to the production of environmentally friendly materials.
The discussion will focus on ethical design solutions, each panellist will talk about their area of work, discuss what inspires them to do the work they do and they will share their views about the future of more environmentally progressive materials, highlighting the opportunities and challenges of working in this area.
The Panel will be chaired by Gill Caldicott, Area Director, East China, and Consul (Culture and Education). The session is suitable for anyone interested in the future of sustainable fashion and textiles and those working in the design sector business in the UK or China.
Born & raised in Hertfordshire, England Joey has a degree in industrial design. He has worked & lived in Australia & Canada. Joey has a background in sustainable design, development & sourcing. He relocated to Guangzhou in 2020. He has built Veshin focused on ethical design solutions.

In 2018, DANQI, as the first Chinese designer to win the Swarovski International Fashion Award at London Graduate Fashion Week, was highly appreciated by the fashion industry such as the director of Dior haute couture. During the period of independent designers, she cooperated with Porsche-MHP, TFBOYs and other well-known brands and artists, and was invited to speak for the representatives of post-95 designers at the official forum of China International Fashion Week.
Her collections have been reported in many well-known magazines, including Vogue, Wallpaper, JingDaily etc. She was called “creative fashion sculpture” by the media and has been shown in China International Fashion Week opening ceremony, Shanghai Fashion Week, London Fashion Scout and the British Parliament. The fashion work ” LET THE CLAY DOGS BLOW ” collection was shown at the opening ceremony of 19AW China International Fashion Week and was permanently collected by China Silk Museum, which is the world’s largest silk museum. In 2021, DANQI won the YU PRIZE 2021 Award-Sustainability Champion and designed sustainable art bags for Remy Martin. DONSEE10 will have its first show at Shanghai Fashion week LABELHOOD in Oct 2021.
Gill Caldicott is the Director of the British Council in East China, with responsibility for leading the UK’s cultural relations and educational exchange work in the three Eastern provinces of Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, as well as Shanghai Municipality. She holds the diplomatic rank of Consul where she manages the UK’s education and cultural relationship on behalf of the British Consulate General Shanghai.
She was appointed to the role in August 2020, having previously served a British Council Director Sri Lanka. She has extensive leadership experience having worked in South Asia, Europe and the Middle East during a 30-year career with the British Council.
Gill believes strongly in the power of education and culture, as a bridge between peoples of different nationalities, and has seen first hand the opportunities, trust and understanding that can be created through such exchanges. In her spare time, Gill enjoys travelling, visiting cultural heritage sites and exhibitions, wildlife photography and reading.
